American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) Wind Project Siting & Environmental Compliance Conference 2018

Tuesday, March 20, 2018
The Guest House at Graceland | Memphis, TN

The AWEA Wind Project Siting and Environmental Compliance Conference is where leaders from the wind industry, environmental permitting and compliance sector, the scientific community, and regulatory officials come together for a robust discussion about the current state of siting and environmental compliance, and network.  Take away key insights within wind energy development, operations, evolving trends, and strategies for improving the project permitting process and maximizing the output of operating assets while increasing regulatory and legal certainty.

Please join our colleagues from Nossaman for two informative presentations at the conference.

Policy, Politics and Permit Priorities

Regulatory reform, new appointees, state-wide moratoria, securing our military bases, bats headed for extinction?!  The wind industry is not alone in trying to navigate a distinctly different regulatory environment.  We will begin the conference with an informal chat with industry leaders bringing a diversity of experiences and perspectives to the world of wind turbine siting.

Eagle Permits

Eagle permits continue to be a source of frustration and uncertainty for wind project development.   A year into a “new” permitting structure, and developers are still struggling to navigate the process and understand the implications for project development.  This panel will offer discussion on the implementation of the 2016 Eagle Rule and efforts to define a path to “low(er) risk permits that can be secured at a cost and timeframe that is more in line with relative impacts.  The panel will also address other parts of the 2016 Eagle Rule, including the Bayesian collision risk model, mitigation options and post-construction monitoring.
