"The Best Lawyers in America" is honoring four Nossaman attorneys: Rob Thornton is recognized for environmental law; Marty Mattes for administrative, communications and energy law; Kurt Melchior for insurance law; and Howard Harrison for commercial litigation. The Best Lawyers database is searchable on Bloomberg Terminals, published in Corporate Counsel magazine, circulated to members of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC), and published in regional business journals. Inclusion in Best Lawyers is based entirely on peer review. Attorney interviews are conducted over the phone or via email with interviewers posing the question, "If you could not handle a case yourself, to whom would you refer it?" Participants give nominees letter grades A-C which are then converted into numerical equivalents and averaged. | 09/15/08 | Nossaman receives honors from the American Road and Transportation Builders Association
On September 15, 2008, in honor of its 20th Annual Conference on Public-Private Ventures in Transportation, the ARTBA honored the individuals and organizations making the most significant contributions over the last two decades to advancing the practice, use, and adoption of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in the U.S. transportation sector.
ARTBA named Geoffrey S. Yarema, the chair of Nossaman’s Infrastructure Practice Group, as the private sector individual who had contributed most significantly, over the last 20 years, to PPPs in the U.S. transportation sector. Paired with Geoff on the public sector side was Barbara W. Reese, the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Deputy Secretary of Transportation.
Among the list of other individuals honored for making important contributions was Karen J. Hedlund, longtime Nossaman partner and head of the Infrastructure Practice Group’s east coast practice. Nossaman was the only law firm among the list of 31 public and private organizations honored. Nossaman Partner David Colgan was awarded the Gwen Rosebeary Award by The Building Industry Association, Orange County Chapter (BIA/OC) at their 41st annual installation dinner on November 2, 2007. The award is presented each year to an individual who has demonstrated a long-term commitment and outstanding dedication to the BIA/OC. It is named for the organization's former Director of Membership, Gwen Roseberry, who served as a BIA/OC staff member for nearly 30 years.
Mr. Colgan stepped down from the BIA/OC Board of Directors after 26 years of service on the Board. The American Lawyer annually surveys midlevel associates nationally and compiles a ranking based on their overall satisfaction. Nossaman is proud to announce our national ranking, 25th in overall associate satisfaction out of 189 firms that participated. In addition, Nossaman is the 5th ranked firm nationally that is California based, the 4th ranked firm in Orange County and the 10th ranked firm among Non-Am Law 200 firms nationally (third among California based firms).
American Lawyer defines midlevel associates for the 2007 survey as those who graduated from law school in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Though 189 firms participated, only 164 firms submitted the minimum 10 completed surveys to be included in the results.
On a scale of 1 to 5 the national average score for associate satisfaction is 3.8, at Nossaman that number is 4.1. Our highest scores were a 4.6 average in the overall rating as a place to work, a 4.6 average in the level of responsibility and a 4.5 average score in the collegiality of the firm.
