F. Gordon Lee has more than three decades of experience in customs, export control, international trade, and immigration law. He represents major multi-national companies on a wide range of import and export issues before numerous government agencies. Mr. Lee represents American and foreign individuals and corporations in civil and white collar criminal litigation involving alleged customs and export control violations. He also assists companies with visas and green card issues for their foreign professionals.
Mr. Lee has an impressive record as an effective advocate, helping his clients overcome millions of dollars in potential customs duties and penalties. He also assists clients by obtaining special licenses and exemptions, establishing compliance and training programs, and litigating alleged violations. He combines a sophisticated understanding of the law and administering agencies, a persuasive courtroom presence, and business savvy to help his clients function internationally without obstruction.
Mr. Lee has lectured in the U.S. and Europe on customs and export law, has provided expert technical background to members of Congress, and has authored a handbook on dealing with customs. He serves as the Administrative Partner of Nossaman's Washington, DC office and formerly served as the Managing Partner of O'Connor & Hannan LLP.
Alleged Customs Violations. Represented scores of large and small corporations in civil and criminal penalty investigations, typically resulting in overcoming millions of dollars of duties and penalties and frequently preventing criminal charges.
Customs and Commerce Audits. Assisted clients in a wide variety of industries in the preparation and defense of potentially high-stakes Customs and Commerce Audits.
General Customs Advice. Advised numerous major multinational corporations on the intricacies of importing products into the United States including the areas of classification of merchandise, valuation of merchandise, temporary imports in bond, and drawbacks, among other areas.
General Export Control Advice. Advised clients with respect to the export of goods and technology, both real and deemed exports, from the United States, addressing requirements for export or re-export licenses from the Department of Commerce, the Office of Foreign Assets Control, or other United States Government agencies when necessary. Assisted clients with obtaining licenses, special comprehensive licenses, and identifying license exceptions. Successfully represented clients in civil and criminal investigations relating to alleged violations of the Export Control Laws.
Compliance and Training Programs. Assisted clients in establishing company-wide programs and ongoing efforts, including production of training films to assure compliance with Export Control and Customs laws.
Immigration. Advised and assisted numerous major multinational corporations on the movement of foreign professionals into the United States, obtaining appropriate visas and/or green card status.
