Former Department of Justice Environment and Natural Resources Division Attorney Joins Nossaman

ORANGE COUNTY (November 29, 2004) - Nossaman Guthner Knox & Elliott has added additional depth to its nationally recognized environmental and endangered species litigation practices. The firm announced today that Paul Weiland, an experienced Justice Department litigation attorney, has joined Nossaman's Land Use and Environmental Practice Group. Mr. Weiland will work in the firm's Irvine and Los Angeles offices.

Prior to joining Nossaman, Mr. Weiland worked in the Law and Policy Section within the Environmental & Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. While at the Department of Justice, Mr. Weiland represented the United States in appellate and trial environmental litigation, including litigation involving the Clean Water Act; Endangered Species Act; National Environmental Policy Act; and a number of other federal statutes. In 2004, Mr. Weiland received the Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service for his work on litigation involving the government's management of the Missouri River. Mr. Weiland also worked as an associate in the Environmental Department at Goodwin Procter in Boston.

Mr. Weiland earned his J.D. at Harvard Law School. He also holds a PhD. in Public Policy from Indiana University and a B.A. from the University of Southern California.
