Kevin Collins is an experienced trial lawyer who focuses on complex litigation in commercial, construction, and public law. He is well respected and known to be uncompromising in advocating for his clients. Mr. Collins represents commercial real estate developers, major auto manufacturers, public agencies, and clients in the financial services sector. His auto industry clients have included the North American divisions of Honda and Kia Motors.

In addition, he has an in-depth understanding of the legal environment and issues specific to the Sacramento Valley. Mr. Collins served as General Counsel for a Community Services District which provided services including fire, park, and recreation to residents in Sacramento County. He advised the board and staff on all issues pertaining to public law including the Brown Act, conflicts of interest, and public contracting. Mr. Collins has 15 years of experience representing public agencies, cities, counties, and special districts.

Representative Work

National Bank of Arizona v. Kobra Associates, Inc., et al. Lead counsel in a multimillion dollar Federal receivership action enforcing loan obligations for National Bank of Arizona against the largest Jack in the Box franchise in Northern California.

First Ascent Homeowner's Association, et al. v. Intrawest California Holdings, Inc., et al. Represented one of the largest resort developers in the world in a construction defect case alleging defects in construction of condominiums at the Village at Squaw Valley, California.

Ham, et al. v. Intrawest Napa Development Company, LLC, et al. Lead counsel for Intrawest Corporation in an action alleging violations of the Federal Interstate Land Sales Full Disclosure Act and the California Subdivision Map Act for a development in Napa, California.

Solano County Transportation Authority v. Anheuser Bush, Inc. Represented Anheuser Busch, Inc. in an eminent domain action by the State of California and the Solano County Transportation Authority seeking to take Anheuser Busch's property adjoining Interstate 80 near Fairfield, California to construct a truck scale station.

New Motor Vehicle Board v. Platinum Motors, LLC, et al. Represented the largest Lamborghini dealership in the United States in a proceeding against it before the California New Motor Vehicle Board attempting to revoke its dealer's license.

Imel, et al. v. Lake Hemet Municipal Water District, et al. Lead trial counsel in a case against a municipal water district alleging numerous causes of action for personal injury, inverse condemnation, and quiet title. Plaintiff dismissed the case with prejudice after conclusion of the bench trial.

Elk Grove Community Services District v. City of Elk Grove. Represented the State's largest community services district in an action by an overlapping city which was attempting to take over the community services' park services.

Fontana Public Employees Assn. v. City of Fontana (1998, 67 Cal.App.4th 1215). Represented the City of Fontana in municipal labor benefits dispute under the Meyers Milias Brown Act. The state court's decision disallowing future benefit reduction by the city for its employees was reversed on appeal.

Home Gardens Sanitary District v. City of Corona (2002, 96 Cal.App.4th 87). Represented the City of Corona in a jurisdictional dispute relating to overlapping police powers. The appellate decision clarified California's legal precedent on dueling police powers between sovereign entities.

Sanghvi v. City of Claremont (9th Circuit, 2003, 328 F.3d 532). Represented the City of Claremont in litigation related to alleged violations of the Fair Housing Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act by a group home. The jury rendered a complete defense verdict which was upheld on appeal. Additionally, the appellate decision set the Ninth Circuit standard for jury instructions in Fair Housing Act cases pertaining to group homes.

City of Riverside v. Ken Stansbury, et al. (2007, 155 Cal.App.4th 1582). Defeated an anti-SLAPP motion to a pre-election challenge of an eminent domain initiative.
