CSHA's Hearing Officer Update Program
Bob Sullivan and Carlo Coppo spoke at the California Society of Healthcare Attorneys’ (CSHA) Hearing Officer Update Program on November 7, 2019 in Sacramento, CA.
Bob participated in a panel presentation regarding Admissibility of Evidence of Retaliation or Discrimination. The panel discussed the admissibility of evidence of prejudice and retaliation in peer review hearings. Bob gave the hearing officer’s perspective, stressing relevance to impeachment.
Carlo co-presented on The Role of the Appeal Board. The presentation reviewed the statutory and case law and bylaw provisions establishing procedures governing an appeal by either the aggrieved physician or the MEC of the Medical Staff from an adverse decision by a Judicial Review Committee (JRC) or a sole Arbitrator following the imposition of corrective action by the MEC. The presenters also discussed the role of counsel to an Appeal Board including providing advice and counsel and assisting the Appeal Board in writing their decision.
