When a Medical Staff Member Gets a DUI
On November 19, 2020, David Balfour co-presented “When a Medical Staff Member Gets a DUI.” This session was part of the Videoconferences for Wellbeing Committees co-hosted by California Public Protection & Physician Health, Inc. (CPPPH) and California Society of Addiction Medicine (CSAM). This series seeks to educate audiences in the healthcare industry about issues relating to alcohol/drug use and addiction, mental health, cognitive functioning, aging and behavior.
This 90-minute session discussed the medical staff policies and procedures to have in place when the medical staff learns that a physician has, recently or in the past, been stopped, arrested, charged or convicted of a DUI offense. David also looked at the investigation process the medical staff must go through to get information on the DUI and how to move forward.
