Former California Coastal Commission Chair Joins Nossaman
SACRAMENTO (Feb. 14, 2012) – Nossaman LLP announced today that former California Coastal Commission Chair Bonnie Neely has joined the Firm as a senior policy advisor in the Environment and Land Use Practice Group. Ms. Neely, who will be based in Sacramento, was a six-term Humboldt County Supervisor and a 12-year member of the Coastal Commission. Ms. Neely served on the Commission — which she chaired in 2009 and 2010 — as a governor's appointee. She will also work closely with the Firm's Public Policy Practice Group.
"Bonnie has been involved with nearly every major coastal project in the North Coast over the past decade, and her policy experience and understanding of the Commission's regulatory process will be an excellent supplement to our existing coastal practice," said John Flynn, co-chair of Nossaman's Environment and Land Use Practice Group. "As a non-lawyer, Bonnie brings a new perspective to our practice group that will enhance the services we provide."
Ms. Neely has a keen insight into the land-use and resource issues affecting private development, public infrastructure, and environmental protection throughout California's sensitive coastal zone. She has been involved in a large number of major coastal projects, many of which were precedent setting, and understands the importance of local government in formulating and updating Local Coastal Programs (LCPs) that govern allowable development. Ms. Neely will join the Firm's Environment and Land Use Practice Group, which includes coastal law specialists, John Erskine, John Flynn, Greg Sanders, and Rob Thornton, each of whom have decades of experience representing private and public clients before the Commission.
"I've known many of the attorneys at Nossaman for years, and they do tremendous work," Ms. Neely said. "I feel privileged to now be their colleague and look forward to new challenges and opportunities in my role as senior policy advisor."
