Health Care Deal Activity to Stay Strong in 2014

Daily Journal

Nossaman Partner Richard Spohn was quoted in the Daily Journal article "Health Care Deal Activity to Stay Strong in 2014," regarding the flurry of deals within the healthcare industry that have largely been driven by the cost-cutting measures included in the Affordable Care Act.

The article notes that several Accountable Care Organizations, which are groups of health care providers that can receive a share of the Medicare savings generated from the improvements to or lowered costs of health care, have emerged in response to the premium that the law placed on efficient delivery systems.

"The motif is people coming together in collaborative relationships more than the hard buy-and-sell," said Mr. Spohn.  He added, "The hegemonic grip that the [Health Maintenance Organizations] and the carriers have had is now being to some extent impacted by the emergence of these ACOs.  You're going to see more of these exotic new constructs."
