Health Insurers, Providers Combine Amid Raft of Deals
Nossaman Partner Charlie Fiedler was quoted in the Daily Journal article, "Health insurers, providers combine amid raft of deals," commenting on the recent uptick in the consolidation of health care providers and insurance companies.
The article noted that Mr. Fiedler represented Monarch HealthCare, an Irvine-based physicians network, when it was acquired by UnitedHealth Group Inc. in 2011.
Mr. Fiedler commented that joining United afforded Monarch the additional capital and infrastructure it needed to grow and implement efficiencies such as the use of electronic medical records. "It has been a good marriage for both sides," he said.
According to the article, these agreements ultimately are meant to result in cost reduction, increased efficiency and improved patient care and, if proven successful, could impact how health care is administered and paid for.
