Healthcare Group Expands with Addition of Industry Veteran John Puente in Sacramento
Sacramento, CA — Nossaman has expanded the Healthcare Group in its Sacramento office with the addition of well-known attorney John Michael Puente. He has over 25 years of experience working in the healthcare field in law and public policy.
John joins from Oscar Health—a leading technology focused health insurance company—where he served as Vice President, Government Affairs and California Operations Director. In this role he established and led Oscar’s regulatory affairs and government relations programs and served as the head of the company’s California health plan operations. Prior to joining Oscar, John was the Vice President, Regulatory Affairs and Deputy General Counsel for Molina Healthcare—a publicly traded, managed care company headquartered in Long Beach, California. At Molina, he established and oversaw the company’s nationwide corporate regulatory affairs program and managed, analyzed and implemented all regulatory matters impacting operations. Earlier in his career he served as the Deputy Director, Plan and Provider Relations and Chief of Licensing for the Department of Managed Healthcare (DMHC) and General Counsel for the Medical Board of California.

John earned his J.D. from Gonzaga University School of Law and his B.A.. from St. Mary’s College of California. He has served as the Chairperson for the Sacramento County Mental Health Board, the Co-Chair of the Sacramento County Bar Association Health Care Law Section, and on the boards of the California Society of Healthcare Attorneys and the Sacramento County Bar Association.
