Dick Ackerman and Christopher Nedeau Join Nossaman Adding Political Prowess and Courtroom Savvy
ORANGE COUNTY/SAN FRANCISCO (February 25, 2009) – Law firm Nossaman LLP today announced that former California Senate Republican Leader Dick Ackerman has joined the firm as a partner in Orange County. Christopher Nedeau , a seasoned trial lawyer, has joined the firm in San Francisco as a civil litigation partner.
"Dick Ackerman's decades of experience in the legislature and as a corporate attorney combined with his creative entrepreneurial approach make him a great fit for Nossaman," said Orange County partner John Erskine.
"Christopher Nedeau is an energetic veteran trial attorney with a tremendous, positive spirit," said Nossaman Litigation Chair, Patrick Richard. "Any firm would be pleased to welcome him. Nossaman is well positioned to support his practice."
Firm Managing Partner Michael Heumann addressing the timing of the move stated, "Every law firm has to chart its course through a drastically different economy than we were looking at a year ago. Along with unprecedented challenges come unprecedented opportunities. We believe the current environment presents excellent opportunities to bring in top litigators like Christopher and lawyers like Dick Ackerman whose strategic and policy experience will help clients in an uncertain regulatory environment."
Dick Ackerman comes to Nossaman following eight years in the Senate and five years service in the California State Assembly. Before representing Orange County in Sacramento, he was twice elected Mayor of Fullerton. Mr. Ackerman is often recognized for his 25 year long career in public service and has received numerous honors and awards including the League of California Cities 2005 "Legislator of the Year." He earned a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley and a J.D. from Hastings College of the Law.
Prior to joining Nossaman, Christopher Nedeau was a partner at Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold LLP where he practiced law for over fifteen years. Over the course of his career, including time spent working in the San Francisco District Attorney's office and at the Department of Justice, Mr. Nedeau has tried 100 criminal and civil cases to verdict. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.B.A. in finance and earned his J.D. from Notre Dame Law School.
"Both Ackerman and Nedeau build on strengths of our firm," Mr. Heumann remarked. "Nossaman has a long history of notable California legislators at the firm including John Knox, Bill Bagley and John Foran."
