Nossaman Expands Intellectual Property Group, DC Office with Addition of James Wilson

Washington, DC – We are pleased to announce Jim Wilson has joined our Intellectual Property Group as a partner in the Washington, DC office. He joins from Davidson Berquist Jackson & Gowdey LLP.

Jim's practice focuses on litigating patent infringement and trade secret disputes in federal district court and before the U.S. International Trade Commission, appeals to the Federal Circuit, as well as contested (inter partes) proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Before entering private practice, he served as a USPTO Patent Examiner for four years.

“Jim’s experience—both on the government and the private side—enables him to add immediate value for our IP clients.” said Thomas Dover, chair of the Intellectual Property Group. “We are pleased he is joining the firm.” In addition to Jim, the Intellectual Property Group added Wayne Helge as a partner in the DC office in April of this year.

Our Intellectual Property Group’s services include the licensing and exploitation of clients' IP portfolios (patents, copyrighted software programs, trademarks, service marks, trade names, internet domain names and algorithms), compliance with regulatory requirements applicable to those portfolios, financing for and development of R&D programs, as well as litigation and other claims. Its lawyers conduct due diligence reviews of IP in connection with technology licensing transfers, financing and M&A transactions. The group also represents U.S. clients with respect to cross-border licensing of software, trademarks, trade secrets, know-how and other intellectual property rights, including licenses with enterprises in the European Union, Central America, Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Korea.

Commenting on his move to Nossaman, Jim said, “I am excited to help such a well-respected group grow its patent practice. My skills tackling thorny patent issues fit well with Nossaman’s strengths in complex business litigation. Whether navigating challenges before the PTO or ITC, in district court, or on appeal to the Federal Circuit, my years of patent experience will assist the Firm’s clients meet their IP needs. Jim holds a J.D., magna cum laude, from American University and B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University.
