Types of Information Collected and How They’re Used

Nossaman only collects information necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected. The type of information we collect will depend upon the nature of your relationship with us (e.g., whether you are a client, prospective client, candidate, or visitor to our website), the purpose of our interaction with you, and any legal and/or regulatory obligations.

Through our website, Nossaman collects information in two ways: (1) automatically and (2) directly from a website user. 

Information Collected Automatically

When you access our website, Nossaman collects information about your connected devices (such as a computer, mobile phone and tablet) and how you navigate through our webpages. This type of information includes:

• IP address, domain information, browser type and geographic location (as associated with your IP address). Collecting this information allows us to become more familiar with who visits our website, how often they visit and what webpages they visit.
• A "cookie" is a piece of data stored on the user's hard drive, containing information about the user. We may use cookies on our website, but none of them contain any personally identifiable information. Cookies can help us provide information which is targeted to your interests. Information Submitted Directly by a Website User

Nossaman provides you the opportunity to agree or decline to give your personal information. We will inform you of the purpose for the collection and do not intend to transfer your personal information to third parties without your consent, except under the limited conditions described in the “How We Share Information” section below. If you choose to provide us with your personal information, we may transfer that information within our organization or to a third-party service provider as necessary.

Nossaman website users will generally submit personal information through:

• Website forms (such as our Contact Us, Subscribe and event registration forms). This information is used to either provide a service or communicate with our website users. The information submitted by you may include, but is not limited to:
• First and last name
• Company, home, postal or other physical address
• Telephone number
• Email address
• Company name
• Job title, position or occupation
• Industry
• Personal interests
• Any other information needed to provide a service you requested
• By using these forms you also agree to our Terms & Conditions.
• Direct Email. Nossaman has direct email links to its legal professionals and staff on its website. Although this information is not sent through the website, it can be retained and used to help process your request. Be advised, sending emails over the internet may not be secure and should not contain sensitive or confidential information unless the messages are adequately encrypted. No attorney-client relationship is created through your use of this website or sending an email to a Nossaman attorney. Unsolicited information sent to Nossaman by individuals who are not clients of the firm is not subject to any duty of confidentiality. Nossaman and you must agree that there is an attorney-client relationship. Until such a relationship exists, Nossaman will assume that any information you send to us does not meet the standard of attorney-client privilege.

How We Share Information

All data on this website, apart from event/webinar payments made through our payment processing provider, are housed in a third-party-hosted SQL database with cloud storage. Access to this database is limited to Nossaman and its third-party website development team. We do not have access to the financial information used in our payment processing provider.

We do not sell the information you submit through forms on our website and only share this information, with your consent, with third-party providers for website analytics or when required to complete a service you have requested.

We will disclose your personal information, if required to do so by law, or in urgent circumstances, to protect personal safety, the public or our website.

How Your Information is Secured and Stored

Nossaman uses administrative, technical and physical security measures to help protect your personal information. And while we have taken reasonable measures to protect your information, please be aware that despite our efforts no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and no data transmission method can be guaranteed against an unauthorized intrusion. Any information disclosed online is vulnerable to intrusion or misuse and as a result we cannot guarantee the complete security of your personal information. We process and store data in the United States and in other locations for back-up and recovery purposes. If you live outside of the United States, you understand and agree that we may transfer your information, including personal information, within the United States. Our Website is subject to U.S. laws, which may not afford the same level of protection as those in your country.

Consumers’ Rights in California

This policy does not apply to our current and former partners and employees and their family members, dependents, and beneficiaries; if you are a California resident who is a current or former partner or employee of the Firm or a family member, dependent, or beneficiary of any of our current or former partners or employees, you may request access to our Employee Privacy Policy by sending an email to info@nossaman.com.

Additional Rights Under the CCPA/CPRA

The CCPA grants the following rights to all California residents who are natural persons:

• Right to Know: you have the right to know what personal information Nossaman has collected, used, disclosed or sold in the last 12 months, both as to the categories and specific pieces of personal information.
• Right to Delete: you have the right to request deletion of personal information held by Nossaman and, by extension, a service provider used by Nossaman.
• Right to Limit; you have the right to limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information collected by Nossaman as defined by the CCPA.
• Right to Correct: you have the right to request that we correct inaccurate information that we maintain about you, to the extent an inaccuracy exists;
• Right to Opt-Out: California residents have the right to opt-out of the sale of personal information. Nossaman does not sell your personal information (as ‘sell’ is defined in CCPA) and therefore does not provide an opt-out option.
• Right to Non-Discrimination: you have the right to non-discrimination in terms of price or service when a consumer exercises a privacy right under CCPA.

Exercising Your Rights Under the CCPA/CPRA

To exercise your right to know, correct, limit and delete information California residents must submit a verifiable request. You can submit a request in three different ways:

As a resident of California, you may make a personal information request twice in a 12-month period. Nossaman will respond within 10 days to confirm receipt of the request and provide information on how the request will be verified and processed. Nossaman will provide a response to the request within 45 days of the verifiable consumer request.

Nossaman will not disclose, in response to a Request to Know, your Social Security number, driver’s license number or other government-issued identification number, financial account number, any health insurance or medical identification number, account password, security questions and answers, or unique biometric data generated from measurements or technical analysis of human characteristics. Nossaman shall, however, inform you with sufficient particularity if we have collected this type of information.

Categories of Information Collected

Nossaman may collect personal information that identifies, relates to, describes, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular consumer or household.

The following table lists the categories of personal information, as defined by the CCPA, that has been collected within the past 12 months, and how this information has been used and shared.

Shine the Light

California Civil Code Section 1798.83, also known as the "Shine The Light" law, permits our users who are California residents to request and obtain from Nossaman once a year, free of charge, information about their personally identifiable information (if any) that we disclosed to third parties for direct marketing purposes in the preceding calendar year, if at all. If applicable, this information would include a list of the categories of personal information that was shared and the names and addresses of all third parties with which we shared such information in the immediately preceding calendar year. If you are a California resident and would like to make such a request, please submit your request in writing to:

Please be aware that not all information sharing is covered by the "Shine the Light" requirements and only information on covered sharing will be included in our response. Also note that under California law, businesses are only required to respond to a consumer request once during any calendar year.

Retention of Your Information

Nossaman will retain your personal information for so long as required to provide the services or complete the transactions for which your personal information was collected. Nossaman will also retain data for as long as legally required or allowed to do so for compliance obligations, dispute resolutions and pursuant to Nossaman policies or contractual obligations.

Nossaman eAlerts and News

Nossaman invites you to subscribe to our eAlerts and news updates. Nossaman will mainly send eAlerts and news updates via email, according to your subscription preferences. For some messages, we may use personal information we collect about you to help us determine the most relevant marketing information to share with you. If you no longer wish to receive messages from us, you will be able to inform us by clicking on the “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of our emails or you may adjust your settings using the “Subscription Management” link. Please note, if you do opt-out of or do not grant consent to receiving marketing related messages from us, Nossaman may still send you non-marketing messages, such as communications regarding our representation or prior representation of you.

Children’s Privacy

Nossaman recognizes the importance of protecting the privacy of children. We support and comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and other laws. Our Website is not intended for children under the age of 18. We ask that those 18 years of age or less, not use the Website. No personally identifiable information is purposefully or knowingly collected from children under the age of 18 by us without parental consent. We expect all information provided by online users to be truthful and correct regarding age and other information provided.

Children under 16 years old are not the target audience for our website. To protect their privacy, we prohibit the solicitation of personal information from these children. If we receive or discover personal information provided by a child under the age of 16, we will promptly delete the information.

Links to Other Websites

Our website may contain links to third-party websites. Nossaman does not share your personal information with those websites and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of all websites you visit.
