Yuliya Oryol is Chair of the Public Pensions and Investments Practice Group at Nossaman LLP and serves as Administrative Partner for the Firm's San Francisco office.  Ms. Oryol represents institutional investors, government agencies, multi-national corporations and privately held companies in a broad range of investment and corporate matters.

From 2000 to 2003, Ms. Oryol worked in Seoul, South Korea where she represented American, Asian, and European institutional investors, financial institutions, and South Korean business conglomerates.

Prior to private practice, Ms. Oryol was a Judicial Intern for the Hon. Daniel M. Hanlon, California Court of Appeals, First Appellate District and a Judicial Extern for Chief Magistrate Steele Langford, U.S. District Court, and Northern District of California.

Ms. Oryol is fluent in Russian and Spanish.

Representative Work

Pension Funds/Investments

Representative Work: Ms. Oryol represents public pension plans in connection with their investments in commingled funds, investment partnerships and alternative investment vehicles as selected from time to time by the public pension plan's boards and/or financial advisors in the area of core, value-added and opportunistic investments.  She also advises public pension plans in connection with their investments as limited partners in hedge funds, REITs, and private equity funds.

Representative Clients: Alameda County Employees' Retirement System; California State Teachers' Retirement System; Los Angeles City Employees Retirement System; Los Angeles Fire and Police Retirement Plan; Los Angeles Water and Power Employees Retirement Plan; San Jose Police and Fire Department Retirement Plan; State of Hawaii Employees' Retirement System; San Francisco Employees' Retirement System; and Children's Hospital & Research Center Foundation and Retirement Plan.

Business Transactions/Corporate

Representative Work: Ms. Oryol represents private companies, multi-national corporations and financial institutions.  She assists clients with entity formation, corporate governance, contracts, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, venture capital, securities and general business law matters. She also advises management, boards of directors and shareholder groups on complex business transactions.

Representative Clients: Photon Dynamics, Inc.; Iron Mountain; Kaiser Permanente; Samsung Group; California Water Services Group; Valencia Water Company; Industrial Bank of Korea; and Port Singapore Authority.

Real Estate

Representative Work: Ms. Oryol assists clients with real estate acquisitions, dispositions, mortgage financing, leasing, tenant relations and asset management.  She also serves as outside real estate counsel for public pension funds and private companies with respect to the investment of their portfolios in office, industrial, multi-tenant and retail projects throughout the United States.

Representative Clients: Sacramento County Employees Retirement System; San Jose Police and Fire Department Retirement Plan; San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority; Bank of the West; and Bank of Guam.
