Policy Advisor (Sacramento)
We have an immediate opening in our Sacramento office for a full-time Policy Advisor to support the Firm’s Government Relations & Regulation Group, working with other lobbyists to represent several of the Firm’s clients before the California legislature, the governor and various state/local agencies. Our diverse client base includes both public and private sector clients in industries such as transportation, water, education, clean tech, energy and healthcare. This is a great opportunity to work closely with dynamic professionals in a highly regarded national firm.
The salary range for the position of Policy Advisor at Nossaman is $100,000 to $135,000 annually. The successful candidate’s salary for this position is reasonably expected to be set within this range. However, actual compensation will depend on a variety of factors, including, without limitation, the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist managing lobbying clients and implementing their advocacy goals. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Monitor legislation, legislative hearings and Executive Branch policy initiatives, and report back to clients all relevant information
- Coordinate advocacy days, and prepare advocacy documents and talking points on behalf of clients
- Attend and participate in legislative hearings and testify when appropriate, on behalf of clients
- Lead advocacy meetings relevant to client priorities
- Generate position papers, letters, and strategy memos for clients
- Keep clients informed about new political developments on a regular basis
- Research and track funding opportunities at various state agencies
- Provide modest administrative support to the group
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent experience, is required
- Prior legislative experience is required
- Detail-oriented, with strong analytical and writing skills
- Demonstrated ability to perform at high levels in a fast-paced work environment
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), professional demeanor and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
