06.19.2018
Universal City, CA
6:00 - 9:15 p.m. PT

The Rutter Group featured Ashley Dunning as a speaker during its educational seminar, "What’s Next for the ‘California Rule?’: Public Employee Pensions as Vested Rights," on June 19, 2018 in Los Angeles, CA.

The presentation explored the rule that considers it a vested right that employee's receive a future pension benefit on immutable terms, such that those terms can only be changed to the employee's detriment under very limited circumstances. This rule, which evolved over decades of judicial decision making, is getting a closer look in light of the California Governor and legislature's recent attempt to address certain real or perceived abuses of defined benefit pension systems, some of which are blamed for contributing to the underfunding of certain public pension systems.

This program reviewed cases challenging the California Rule that have been in front of the California Supreme Court recently.
