Mitigating Risk in a Progressive Design-Build Environment
On December 10, 2025, Jill Jaffe participated on a panel to discuss “Mitigating Risk in a Progressive Design-Build Environment” during the 2025 Construction Super Conference.
The Progressive Design-Build (PDB) delivery method can foster a collaborative approach between the owner, designer and contractor. However, disputes are becoming more prevalent on PDB projects…but why? This session discussed emerging risks on PDB projects from owner, contractor and designer perspectives; discussed how companies are pro-actively addressing challenges during the pre-construction phase to minimize unexpected risks during the design-build construction phase; and explored risk mitigation strategies when risks arise. The panel addressed contractual strategies to balance risk allocation among the parties and address risk impact on insurance coverage.
