Sofia Conference 2026
On May 14 – 16, 2026, Bob Adler and Anna Tang participated in the CONSULEGIS Annual Conference 2026.
Anna spoke on the panel “Deals That Almost Broke: Navigating Cultural Differences, Difficult Counterparties and What’s Not in the Contract.” The panel discussed how deals can be strained by challenges beyond the written terms. They explored the importance of navigating communication gaps—even when parties share a common language but interpret concepts differently—as well as managing strong personalities and egos that can complicate negotiations. The discussion also emphasized the need to ensure international clients fully understand deal nuances, highlighting how cultural differences and misaligned expectations can impact successful outcomes.
Anna also joined the panel entitled “Cross-Border Due Diligence in M&A: Scope, Strategy and Deal Impact.” Panelists discussed the impact of legal due diligence on a corporate deal, in particular the jurisdictional differences that may impact the timetable, cultural differences in how businesses and deals are run and the interaction between disclosure and due diligence in various jurisdictions. The discussion showed the importance of early and effective communication between the lawyers involved in order to avoid any delays in the deal timetable and get to a successful completion.
Bob participated on the panel entitled “INAA Meets CONSULEGIS: A Panel Discussion on Lawyers Chasing Accountants.“ When investors or creditors of a company suffer losses, they are regularly seeking to recover their damages from the accountant. The insurer has deep pockets after all. How should we view this development? Are we moving towards a “lawyers’ paradise,” in which the accountant is fair game? Or is it an understandable trend? During this panel discussion, both accountants and lawyers explored these questions.
Bob also moderated the “Tax and Accounting” session during which panelists from the United States, Brazil, Israel and the Philippines discussed the evolving impact of AI on financial practices. The conversation focused on key challenges in valuing data and AI-related intangible assets for accounting and reporting purposes, highlighting the complexity and lack of uniform standards in this emerging area. Panelists also explored how AI is transforming tax and accounting functions more broadly, including shifts in processes, increased automation and the need for professionals to adapt to new technologies and regulatory considerations shaping the future of the field.
