Title 1.81 of Part 4, Division 3 of the Civil Code, contains sections relevant to privacy and the handling of customer information.  This white paper discusses four of those sections: 1798.81.5 (reasonable security of personal information); 1798.82 (disclosure of a data breach involving personal information); 1798.83 (Shine the Light Law – disclosures regarding a business sharing a customer’s personal information with a third party) and 1798.84 (remedies for violation of provisions of Title 1.81).
