Ann-Therese Schmid Discusses Impact of Proposed “Buy America” Changes On EV Charging Station Industry

Ann-Therese Schmid was quoted in the Law360 article “100% ‘Buy America’ Push May Stall EV Charging Supply Chain.” The article discusses the impact of the recent Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) proposal to modify its Buy America waiver regarding electric vehicle charging stations to allow only stations built with 100% American-made components to remain eligible for federal funds. Currently, stations built with 55% American-made components are eligible for federal funds.

Commenting on the issue, Ann-Therese said, “It gives you pause knowing that the clients that I’ve worked with on the NEVI program have found it challenging to find anything that is fully Buy America compliant with the waiver that’s currently in place. The real question is going to be in the rub. I certainly hope that domestic manufacturers respond and give a real-world analysis of where the market really is at as being able to comply.”
