Everything You Wanted to Know About the State Lands Commission But Were Afraid to Ask
On September 13, 2024, Andrew Vogel moderated the panel entitled “Everything You Wanted to Know About the State Lands Commission But Were Afraid to Ask” during the California Lawyers Association’s 2024 Environmental Law Conference.
This panel provided an introduction to the history and current and future work of the State Lands Commission, one of California’s perhaps lesser-known State agencies but one with a wide-ranging environmental and real estate portfolio throughout the State. The panel covered topics including the Commission’s management of California’s 4,000,000 acres of Public Trust sovereign tidelands and submerged lands and inland waterways and lake beds; the Commission’s oversight of ports and granted sovereign lands; the Commission’s offshore oil spill prevention, Marine Oil Terminal Engineering and Maintenance Standards and marine invasive species programs; its management of School Lands; and others.
