Nine Partners Recognized in Legal500 City Elite Rankings

Nine partners were recognized by the Legal 500 in its inaugural version of the “City Elite” rankings for San Francisco and Los Angeles. The “City Elite” spotlights standout attorneys who are driving meaningful innovation and growth in key U.S. cities.

San Francisco Elite

Simon Adams was named in the Real Estate category. He was praised for his “more than 20 years of experience on leasing transactions and construction contract matters for a variety of commercial, retail and industrial spaces, including professional offices, technology laboratories, data centers, telecom towers and brick and mortar stores.” It was noted he also advises on acquisitions, dispositions and sale and leaseback arrangements and provides counsel on financing issues.

Ashley Dunning was named in the Commercial Disputes category. Legal 500 highlighted her work as “co-chair of the Pensions, Benefits & Investment Group” where she “focuses her practice on solutions for retirement systems and their boards, adequately handling fiduciary duties, corporate governance and staff trainings.” The organization also noted she is “equipped to support government entities and other large clients, and she frequently acts as lead counsel in high-stake cases across various U.S. courts, with several representations in appellate and supreme courts.”

Yuliya Oryol was named in the Finance and Restructuring category. Legal 500 notes she is “co-chair of Nossaman LLP’s Pensions, Benefits & Investments Group and focuses her practice on advising investors on a variety of investment matters. Her practice is exclusively on the limited partner side, advising passive investors who contribute capital. Her clients are primarily government entities, including public pension plans, states and sovereign wealth funds.”

Los Angeles Elite

Marco Costales was named in the Banking and Finance category. He was lauded for his “in depth experience in business transactions” and for having “clients in various industries, including hospitality, food and beverage, health care, manufacturing, transportation, technology, arts and entertainment and retail and professional service.” His “experience includes representation of corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships and joint ventures in connection with formation, financing and credit facilities and mergers and acquisitions.”

Thomas Dover was named in the IP (Intellectual Property) category. He was praised for “providing cutting-edge legal strategies focused in all areas of intellectual property, corporate transactions and advertising” and for “his experience in the U.S. and internationally, which includes complex system and software transactions, public and government entity IT, financial and operational system procurement and negotiations, consumer product (development, branding, manufacture and distribution) and representing entertainment and media interests.”

Joseph Haney was named in the Real Estate category. He was noted for serving as chair of “Nossaman’s Real Estate Group” and advising “developers, hotel operators and investors on complex real estate transactions nationwide.” Legal 500 also said, “His practice spans urban infill acquisitions, residential development, multi-family and single-family projects and hospitality investments, often from land acquisition through construction.”

Karla MacCary was also named in the Real Estate category. She was praised for her “30 years of experience in real estate transactional and financing matters” and noted for her role as “previous chair of the Real Estate Group.” She represents investors and developers, as well as governmental agencies, in the acquisition and disposition of office buildings, hotels, industrial properties, condominiums, mitigation properties, multi-family, undeveloped land and agricultural land.

Doug Schwartz was named in the Tax category. He was noted for his work focusing “on tax matters (international, federal, state and local) issues affecting individual and compensation planning; business formations, transactions and operations; charities, public pension systems and other tax-exempt entities; and investments in different asset classes and investment vehicles,” and his “comprehensive understanding of the complex local, state and federal laws and regulations that affect personal and business taxes for a wide variety of industries.”

Anna Tang was named in the Corporate M&A category. She was recognized for her role as co-chair of Nossaman’s Corporate Group and for representing and advising “emerging and established companies through a broad range of industries as transactional and general corporate counsel with respect to a wide variety of business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, commercial agreements and negotiations and corporate governance.”
