Nossaman News Release

Los Angeles and Irvine, CA – We are pleased to announce Andrew Vogel has joined our statewide Coastal Law and Environment & Land Use Group and will serve as a partner in Nossaman’s Los Angeles office.

Andrew joins Nossaman from the Southern California Gas Company where he served as Senior Environmental Counsel. He previously served as a Deputy Attorney General and then Supervising Deputy Attorney General in the Land Use and Conservation Section for the California Department of Justice. As Supervising Deputy Attorney General, he led and managed a team responsible for representing and advising multiple State agencies, including the California Coastal Commission, State Lands Commission and Department of Conservation, among others. Prior to his 12 years in the AG’s office, he served as an associate and then partner at Gaims, Weil, West & Epstein–a private law firm that focused on business litigation.

“We are excited Andrew made the choice to join Nossaman. His years of service in California and litigation experience representing the Coastal Commission and other State agencies will be invaluable for both our private and public Coastal clients and have earned him an unparalleled reputation with stakeholders across numerous segments of the environmental and coastal law landscapes,” said group leader John Erskine.

Ben Rubin, chair of Nossaman’s Environment & Land Use Group, echoed John’s sentiments. “Nossaman’s Coastal Law Group and our broader environmental and land use practitioners have advised and represented both private and public agency clients on projects and issues before numerous state and regional agencies during the last 50 years. We have handled numerous Local Coastal Program Amendments, Coastal Development Permitting and we serve as go-to counsel for coastal clients facing enforcement actions.”

Our coastal development and permitting practice is strengthened by the ties we maintain with Commissioners and key contacts in federal, state and local government. Many of our lawyers are former government attorneys, elected officials and state agency staff.

The Firm’s Environment & Land Use Group thrives at the intersection of law, policy, engineering and science. Its team-oriented approach helps clients bring projects in on time and within budget. The Group is perennially recognized by Chambers & Partners, the Legal 500 and Best Lawyers as one of the leading practices in the nation.

Commenting on his move to Nossaman, Andrew said, “Nossaman’s Coastal Law and Environmental teams are at the pinnacle of their industries. I look forward to collaborating with the outstanding, experienced group of attorneys at the Firm to deliver strategic advice and optimal results for our clients.”

Andrew holds a J.D. from UCLA School of Law and a B.A. from Dartmouth College. He is a Member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Professional Responsibility and Ethics Committee and serves as an Executive Committee Advisor, Environmental Law Section, for the California Lawyers Association. He is a former Board Member at Temple Sinai of Glendale and former Commissioner of the City of South Pasadena Parks and Recreation Commission.
