Drew Hansen, Co-Chair of Nossaman's Employment Group, was named to National Law Journal’s list of Employment Trailblazers for 2021. The list recognizes a handful of attorneys that are at the top of their game and have made significant marks in the employment law field during their career.

Drew was recognized for his victory in Timothy Pavloff et al. v. Cardinal Logistics Management Corp., where he "successfully represented the transportation solution provider (Cardinal Logistics) and defeated class certification in a matter involving unpaid trucker sleeper berth time under California law, helping to create positive implications for trucking companies."

Commenting on the victory, Drew said, "The matter involves an emerging theory in the trucking world where plaintiffs’ counsel are trying to extend a federal sleeper berth theory to California law. It’s problematic from a motor carrier standpoint because when truck drivers are in the sleeper berth, they are not working, so being compensated would raise prices for almost every good."

Discussing what he sees in the future for employment law, Drew said, "Wage and hour class actions will be an area where plaintiffs’ counsel continue to bring suit." He added, "I’m on the defense side because I think most of the plaintiffs’ bar is in it for their financial interest and using the strength of California laws to benefit themselves."
