Nossaman Sponsors California ChangeLawyers Scholarship for 1L Student
We are proud to partner with California ChangeLawyers to provide a scholarship for year one Loyola Law School student Chelsea Nicole Calderon Viola. As with all recipients of the 1L Diversity Scholarship, Chelsea is a highly talented aspiring lawyer from a background that has been traditionally excluded from the legal field. California ChangeLawyers seeks to build a more diverse and equitable future for the profession, believing that our legal system will only be truly equitable when lawyers, judges and legislators reflect the diversity of the people whose lives are impacted by the law.
Chelsea writes, “I am pursuing a career in criminal law/juvenile law. After witnessing the violent outcomes of the criminal justice system and working with youth in the juvenile justice system, I want to become a youth legal advocate to fight against the vicious cycles that perpetuate racial inequality. I am committed to helping marginalized youth attain the second chance they deserve.”
We support Chelsea in her vision and are delighted that she will join ChangeLawyers’ expanding network of scholar alumni in California and beyond. This includes attorneys now working in civil rights to immigration, from public interest to government and big corporations to small practices. $7,500 of our $10,000 sponsorship will go directly to Chelsea, while $2,500 will support professional development programs designed to help Chelsea and other diverse early-career attorneys to thrive in the profession.
