Overview

Aleene Madikians represents public and private sector clients through all stages of civil litigation primarily focusing on eminent domain and land use matters. She has advised numerous public agencies on complex property acquisitions for large public works projects shaping California’s infrastructure, including rail projects, roads, highways, stadiums, public utilities and flood basins.

Aleene's experience includes working with expert witnesses, drafting pleadings, dispositive motions and written discovery, negotiating and litigating discovery disputes, managing large-scale electronic document reviews and productions, second chairing a trial and preparing cases for trial.

While in law school, Aleene served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Otis D. Wright II of the U.S. District Court, Central District of California.

Experience

Experience

City of Los Angeles / Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). Served as lead associate and second-chaired trial for Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s Barren Ridge Renewable Transmission Project, which brought renewable wind and solar energy from the Tehachapi Mountains and Mojave Desert areas to Los Angeles.

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Assisted Metro with acquisitions of numerous properties for their Purple Line Westside Subway Extension Project and the Rosecrans / Marquardt Grade Separation Project.

County of Los Angeles. Member of legal team representing the County of Los Angeles in a large-scale inverse condemnation matter.

County of Stanislaus. Currently representing the County on real property acquisition and relocation issues including eminent domain litigation for (i) the State Route 108/North County Corridor Phase I Project, which involves the construction of a new four-lane expressway, a new interchange and grade separated structures; and (ii) replacement of the historic 7th Street Bridge Project.

City of Inglewood. Member of the legal team that represented the City in multiple property acquisitions for the Inglewood Basketball and Entertainment Center Project, the future home of the Clippers NBA team.

San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). Represented SANDAG with property acquisitions for the Mid-Coast Corridor Transit Project, a $1.7 billion, 11-mile trolley line extension from downtown San Diego to University City.

California High Speed Rail Authority. Represented the California High Speed Rail Authority in multiple real estate and acquisition matters for the 80-mile Merced to Fresno segment of the project.

Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority. Currently on the legal team representing the VTA on complex right-of-way property acquisition matters for the VTA’s BART Silicon Valley Phase II Project, a $4.7 billion, 6-mile light-rail line.

Southern California Edison. Represented SCE with right-of-way acquisition services for the upgrade of transmission lines throughout the Counties of Riverside and San Bernardino.
