Overview

Steve Wiman's complex litigation practice focuses on commercial disputes, trademark and copyright infringement, unfair competition, and trade secrets.  His clients include brand name food corporations, a well-known sports franchise, government entities and agencies, healthcare providers, and commercial lenders.

Steve served as Chair of Nossaman's Litigation Department from 2004 to 2007.  He is AV Preeminent® Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell and has been recognized in Los Angeles magazine as a Southern California "Super Lawyer" for Business Litigation since 2008.

Arcadia Unified School District v. State Department of Education  (1992) 2 Cal. 4th 251  Amicus Curiae.  Constitutionality of public school charges for bus transportation.

Cook Family Foods, Ltd. v. Voss  (C.D. Cal. 1991) 781 F. Supp. 1458  Constitutionality of state standards for testing weight of meat products.

FDIC v. Perry, No. CV 11-5561-ODW (MRWx) 2011 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 143222 (C.D. Cal. Dec. 13, 2011)  Business judgment rule does not apply to corporate officers.

Green v. Logan  Defended challenge to Los Angeles County election approving county Transient Occupancy and Landfill Taxes.  Judgment of dismissal.  Affirmed by Court of Appeal, June 2, 2014. 

Inland Empire Foods v. Kolla  Represented branded food company in trade secret litigation.

McHugh v. Santa Monica Rent Control Board  (1989) 49 Cal. 3d 348  Constitutionality of municipal rent overcharge provisions.

Mittal v. BayShores Medical Group  Defendant claim of defamation.  Defense verdict.

Nash v. City of Santa Monica  (1984) 37 Cal.3d 97  Addressed constitutionality of municipal controls on destruction of rental housing stock.

Pershadsingh v. County of Los Angeles  Defended challenge to Los Angeles County's Transient Occupancy Tax.  Judgment of dismissal.  Affirmed by Court of Appeal, June 25, 2014.

Rush v. FDIC 747 F. Supp. 575 (N.D. Cal. 1990)  Rejected claim of terminated bank officer's claims for severance payment.

WhamO, Inc. v. Keeper Sports, Inc.  Defense of claim of theft of trade secrets in recreational sports products industry.
