Carl Blumenstein, a Partner in Nossaman’s Litigation Practice Group, was quoted in the Santa Barbara News-Press story, Slippery Rock Ranch Water Dispute Goes To Judge.  The article provides an overview of the closing arguments in Goleta Water District v. Slippery Rock Ranch - Nossaman represents the Goleta Water District (the District) in the matter.  The District is suing Slippery Rock Ranch (the Ranch) - a 780-acre ranch in the foothills of the Santa Ynez Mountains owned by Dick Wolf, creator of Law & Order.  The lawsuit seeks to stop the Ranch from extracting water and selling it to neighboring cities.  The Ranch’s aquifer supplies groundwater to the Goleta Groundwater Basin, for which the District has appropriative rights.  In the story, the News Press recounts portions of Mr. Blumenstein’s closing arguments to Superior Court Judge James Herman, who will decide the case.  His decision is expected in early 2017.
