GIVE Act Passage a Credit to Fred Dombo's Pro-Bono Work at Nossaman

03.20.2009

Washington DC (March 20, 2009) - Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the GIVE Act, legislation that includes a provision establishing 9/11 as a national day of service. The core mission of two non-profit organizations, MyGoodDeed.org and the 9/11 Day of Service Committee, has been to honor the anniversary of 9/11 through volunteer service. Today's historic legislation accomplishes that very goal.

For a number of years, Nossaman Partner Fred Dombo has been involved with both non-profit organizations providing legislative advocacy on a pro-bono basis. His work for MyGoodDeed.org also includes moving forward a Presidential Proclamation endorsing the organization's goals that was signed by President Bush last year. Another success was in calling for a cease to presidential campaigning on September 11, 2008. Instead of stump speeches, both Presidential nominees attended the Service Nation Summit and promoted volunteerism as a way to honor and remember 9/11.

Wednesday the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions passed its version of the bill. The full Senate is scheduled to take up the bill on the floor next week. After which the Senate and House will work together to send the bill to President Obama for his signature. Mr. Dombo continues to support MyGoodDeed.org through ongoing pro-bono work.
