Nossaman Expands Intellectual Property Group, DC Office with Addition of Wayne Helge

Washington, DC – We are pleased to announce Wayne Helge has joined our Intellectual Property Group as a partner in the Washington, DC office. He joins from Davidson Berquist Jackson & Gowdey.  

Wayne’s practice focuses on developing and executing strategies for patent litigation, patent and trademark prosecution and commercial disputes. He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of IP-related disputes, including at the Federal level in breach of contract actions, patent and trademark infringement suits and consumer privacy actions. His state cases have included employment lawsuits, breach-of-contract actions and corporate landlord-tenant disputes.

Wayne's areas of technical specialty include telecommunications and telecommunications standards, graphical user interfaces (GUIs) – especially for cellular devices including smartphones and tablets, augmented reality for smartphones and tablets, semiconductors, light-emitting diodes (LEDs), display panels and driving circuits for liquid crystal display (LCD) panels and organic LEDs (OLEDs), power management and power supply systems, business methods including crowdsourcing technology, mechanical systems and code division multiple access (CDMA) spreading technology. Additionally, Wayne is a registered Professional Engineer, with his license issuing from the state of Rhode Island. He served as an engineer and officer in the U.S. Coast Guard for eight years before attending law school.

Our Intellectual Property Group’s services include the licensing and exploitation of clients' IP portfolios (patents, copyrighted software programs, trademarks, service marks, trade names, internet domain names and algorithms), compliance with regulatory requirements applicable to those portfolios, financing for and development of R&D programs, as well as litigation and other claims. Our lawyers conduct due diligence reviews of IP in connection with technology licensing transfers, financings and M&A transactions. We also represent U.S. clients with respect to cross-border licensing of software, trademarks, trade secrets, know-how and other intellectual property rights, including licenses with enterprises in the European Union, Central America, Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Korea.

Wayne holds a J.D. from Roger Williams University School of Law, an M.S. (Civil Engineering) from the University of Illinois and a B.S. (Civil Engineering) from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. He is admitted to practice before all state-level courts in Virginia and before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. He frequently practices in federal court in Texas, Illinois, Florida, California and Texas.
