Martin Mattes Named One of the "Best"
SAN FRANCISCO (August 30, 2006) – Law firm, Nossaman Guthner Knox & Elliott LLP, congratulates San Francisco Partner Martin A. Mattes on being recognized by "Best Lawyers in America," in the 2007 guide. Mr. Mattes specializes in energy, telecom and water matters, where he represents investor-owned public utilities.
Mr. Mattes has more than 30 year of experience in energy, water and telecommunications law and policy. Currently, his practice focuses on regulation of investor-owned public utilities by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and other regulatory agencies. He represents clients providing or seeking to provide energy, water, and telecommunications services on a public utility basis, offering services in competition or cooperation with public utilities and has particular experience and expertise in matters relating to service costs, rate setting, and operating rules for electric, gas, telecommunications, and water companies. Among recent projects, Mr. Mattes assisted the California Water Association in gaining improvements in important regulatory rules and procedures applicable to investor-owned water utilities, represented MCI in obtaining authorization by the CPUC for its merger into Verizon Communications, assisted Duke Energy in responding to investigations by state and federal agencies of its conduct during the collapse of California power supply markets in the 2000-2001 period, and represents several water companies in rate cases before the CPUC.
In 2005, Bay Area Magazine named Mr. Mattes one of the, "Best Lawyers in the Bay Area." Since then, he has been consecutively named by, "Best Lawyers in America," and in 2006 by, "Super Lawyers," for recognition of his work in the utilities field. Mr. Mattes resides in San Francisco with his wife and three sons.
