Nossaman Announcement

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barclay Edmundson, our friend and colleague, who passed away on January 28, 2022. Barclay was a member of Nossaman’s Employment Group and provided counseling to employers in all areas of California and federal labor and employment law. Over the course of his four decade career as a lawyer, he tried numerous employment-related discrimination cases in state and federal court for such clients as McDonald Douglas Corp., Mitsubishi Electronics USA and Delta Airlines. In addition, he handled appeals of a number of discrimination cases both in California appellate courts and the Ninth Circuit. Most recently he defended employment and commercial class actions as well as complex ERISA litigation.

Prior to joining Nossaman, Barclay was a partner in several prominent law firms in Southern California. He was also an adjunct professor of legal writing at USC Gould School of Law and served on the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Legal Aid Foundation from 2005-2010.

Barclay held a J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, where he graduated first in his law school class, and a B.A., cum laude, from the University of Southern California. After law school, he was a law clerk to the Honorable William Matthew Byrne Jr. of the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

Barclay will be remembered as a phenomenal attorney and an even better person, said George Joseph, the managing partner of Nossaman. “We have been privileged to have him as part of our Nossaman family and will miss him tremendously,” he added.

Drew Hansen, Chair of Nossaman’s Employment Group, said, “Barclay will be deeply missed throughout the firm and especially in the employment group. He was one of the first people I met after joining the firm and I worked with him on a number of matters. I was always impressed by his deep knowledge of the law and his professionalism and, more importantly, by his goodness, kindness and compassion.”

Henry Weinstock, a close friend of Barclay's from the formation of their study group at UCLA Law School in 1976, is one of many heartbroken by Barclay's passing. "Barclay was a genius lawyer, loyal friend, loving father and grandfather. His passing is a tragedy for me, Nossaman, his friends, his clients and his family."
