Shant Boyajian was quoted in the Inframation article, “Momentum Builds For One-Year Surface Transportation Extension.” The article provides an overview of how congressional leaders—with the pandemic and the upcoming election slowing progress on a multi-year bill—are calling for a one-year extension of current surface transportation authorization funding levels. A continuing resolution appropriating funding for FY21, was introduced by Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY) on September 21. This comes as current transportation law—the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act is—set to expire.

Commenting on the situation, Shant said, “The extension will give Congress a chance to pass a long-term resolution next year.” He added that “Regardless of who wins the presidential election in November, all parties can agree that a long-term authorization is in the best interests of the nation and an opportunity to modernize our aging infrastructure.”

Shant was the lead author of the 2015 FAST Act when he was senior counsel to the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.
