Acquiring Industrial Hemp for Science

We represented a well-known medical and scientific research institute in connection with issues involving the acquisition of industrial hemp for scientific study. In order to properly advise the client, we needed to review both federal and California state law issues surrounding hemp. Because this is an evolving industry, the law is evolving as well. Based on the limited federal and state regulatory structure currently available, we advised the client of how best to source the hemp (i.e., to avoid having it shipped from outside of California) as well as other issues involved with potential study of the plant material.
