Navigating Leave and Disability Protection Laws During COVID-19: A Practical Guide for California Employers
Each month, Nossaman's complimentary Employment BUZZ webinar series covers a different topic of interest to employers, including tax, insurance, intellectual property and employment issues. These "quick hit" 30-minute programs are followed by 15-minute Q&A sessions.
Handling employee requests for leave and reasonable accommodation are perennial challenges for employers. The evolving patchwork of federal, state and local laws, regulations and ordinances relating to COVID-19, as well as the novel workplace issues created by the pandemic, have only further complicated navigating such requests. On January 28, 2021, Allison Callaghan addressed these issues during the first Employment BUZZ webinar of the year, "Navigating Leave and Disability Protection Laws During COVID-19: A Practical Guide for California Employers."
With employment-related litigation stemming from the pandemic on the rise, this was a must-attend program for human resources professionals in California. During this program, Allison discussed:
- Employers’ COVID-19-related leave obligations in an evolving legal landscape, including:
- Expiration of the federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act and California’s COVID-19 supplemental paid sick leave (AB 1867)
- The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021; Cal/OSHA’s emergency temporary standards; and local paid sick leave ordinances
- Practical guidance and best practices for managing common COVID-19-related leave and disability-related issues
