Amber Maltbie Named to Top Women Lawyers List
Amber Maltbie was recognized as one of the “Top Women Lawyers” (subscription required) in California for 2020 by the Daily Journal, California’s leading legal newspaper. The “Top Women Lawyers” supplement annually recognizes female lawyers whose work has had an impact in the state and nationally.
The Daily Journal noted Amber’s work on AB220, which was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom and amended the California Political Reform Act to allow state and local candidates to use campaign funds for childcare costs incurred while engaged in campaign activities. The article highlights that Amber “testified in support of the bill in both the Senate and the Assembly.”
The Daily Journal goes on to say, “Electing women is something [Amber] has thought a lot about as a board member of Emerge California, an organization that trains Democratic women to run for office.” The group’s efforts are having an impact, with 72 women running among 200 general election candidates—and 14 races featuring only women candidates—in the November 2020 elections in California. “I view that as a positive thing, so many women running for office that you only have only women running in a race,” Amber added.
Amber's work beyond California is also lauded, with the article highlighting her work as an advisor to groups that “helped pass Medicaid expansion initiatives in Missouri and Oklahoma” this past summer, despite the pandemic.
